What is holding you from writing your dissertation?

Getting down to writing a dissertation manuscript is not easy. There are many factors, other than time, which can keep you from getting down to the writing desk and embark on the documentation process. Here’s a rundown on some factors that I have experienced and observed:

  • Lack of resources: Until and unless you have adequate resources at your disposal, you can certainly not start writing the dissertation. These resources can be interview transcripts which someone else will do, data from some organization which is hard to get, books which you want to study and refer to in your literature review or simply the monetary resources needed to start writing the report.
  • Absence of guidance: There is need of proper mentoring when you are writing an academic document. The style to be adopted for dissertations must be known, and a guide who is familiar with the requirement of the college will be able to helpful in getting you started with the writing process. Even for writing the introduction in a convincing manner, you might require some assistance from an experienced academic writer.
  • Ambiguity as to the format: there are various formatting and refereeing styles, like APA, MLA, Turabian, Chicago and Harvard that are to be followed for dissertations. First, you need to know about the citation style that your university asks for. Secondly, you must learn about that style in order to use it in the proper manner for the different chapters of a dissertation, specially the literature review.
  • Problem for ESL student: If you are a student with English as the second language, you will be probably struggling with the writing task. Conducting the research is one thing; but reporting it in a manner that makes ample sense, and impresses the college committee, is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, taking help from an expert writer will make the documentation much convenient.

So, before you think about the documentation part, make sure to have all necessary resources and consult a mentor for guidance.
